Outdoor Spring Weddings: Inspiration & Design Tips

Planning a spring wedding and need a little inspiration for your outdoor event? Here’s a look back at a few of our favorite outdoor weddings that were perfectly designed to take advantage of their al fresco environment. (Plus a few pro design tips for making the most of your day!)

The Rustic Glam Hotel Bel-Air Wedding of Adrienne & Tim

Adrienne and Tim wanted their wedding to have a natural, organic feeling to it, so I designed soft florals and charming spaces at the Hotel Bel-Air here in Los Angeles. Their ceremony was outside in the lush green garden, and their reception took place beneath a clear tent filled with sparkling string lights and shimmering chandeliers. To create the loose flowing florals, I used roses, hydrangeas, orchids, anemones, and additional blush and ivory blooms, and accented everything with greenery like magnolia leaves, dusty miller, and thistle. We added rustic accents like wooden farmhouse tables and cream upholstered wooden dining chairs to further soften the event’s look. See their full wedding here.

Design Tip: Always consider a tent or other covered spaces for your outdoor wedding, since you never know what weather Mother Nature will bring to your day!

The Santa Barbara Garden Wedding of Brad & Michael

This timeless spring wedding was held at a private estate in Santa Barbara, and I think the delicate white flowers and greenery in combination with the outdoor venue created such a serene, blissful and celebratory mood.

Dinner was served outdoors at a long and gently winding banquet style table decorated with grey linens, lined with wooden chairs, and beautifully adorned with white tulips, peonies, roses, spring greenery and succulents. Each place setting layered clear glass, white and pale blue plates topped with a white magnolia blossom and delicate olive branch to bring the whole look together. This grey, silver, black, white and green color palette never goes out of style! See their full wedding here!

Design Tip: Don’t forget about lighting for your outdoor event! Once it gets dark, having multiple sources of light for your guests not only offers safety and comfort, but it can also create an incredible atmosphere. The combination of string lights above the guests and abundant warm candle light on the dining table really set the tone at this wedding.

The Romantic Hummingbird Nest Ranch Wedding of Monique & Terek

Hummingbird Nest Ranch is a large venue with multiple gorgeous spaces to work with. For this romantic outdoor wedding I designed lush florals in a creamy pastel color palette to perfectly compliment the venue’s Spanish architecture and bold pink bougainvillea backdrops. The long center dining table was covered by a vine draped arbor and vintage chandeliers, and the guests sat in clear acrylic ghost chairs which gave the event a sleek modern detail. I love how many beautiful colors and textures were woven throughout the design! See the full wedding here.

Design Tip: Don’t be afraid to combine contrasting textures and styles! The sleek dining chairs used here created a wonderful balance with the soft, flowing look of the florals and architecture.
